Admins & team members

The two organization roles — admin and team member — and what each can do.

last updated

An organization has two roles.

Admin

Admins run the organization. They can:

  • Open Organization settings and rename the workspace.
  • Invite people, and revoke an invitation that hasn't been accepted.
  • Change anybody's role, and remove members.
  • Make a habit org-wide, which gives every member a copy.
  • Set the organization policy: who may share habits, and which apps and websites are blocked for everyone.

The person who created the workspace is its owner — an admin whose role can't be changed and who can't be removed. Every other admin can be demoted.

Team member

Team members use the organization without administering it. They can:

  • Read the team library and add any shared habit to their own habits.
  • Share their own habits with the team.

They cannot open organization settings, manage people, publish a habit org-wide, or remove a block an admin set. Opening the settings screen shows the team library and a note saying the rest is managed by your admins.

Rules that can't be broken

  • An organization always keeps at least one admin. Demoting or removing the last one is refused.
  • The owner's role can't be changed, and the owner can't be removed.
  • You can't remove yourself. Ask another admin.
