Downloading Plainwork

Plainwork runs as a desktop app. macOS on Apple Silicon is supported today, but Windows is coming soon.

Plainwork is in an invite-only beta, so the download page opens from the link in your invite email rather than from the site navigation. The link doesn't expire, and opening it once remembers this browser so you can come back to the page later.

The download page checks which computer you're on. The Download button only appears on a Mac with Apple Silicon, the chip Plainwork needs to run. On an Intel Mac, Windows, or anything else, you'll see a short note explaining what's supported instead of a button, so you don't download a file that can't run.

Install on macOS

1. Open the download link from your invite email. (No invite yet? Click Request Access on plainwork.com and we'll email you one.)
2. Click Download. The .dmg saves to your Downloads folder. (No button? Your Mac isn't Apple Silicon. See System requirements.)
3. Open the .dmg and drag Plainwork into your Applications folder.
4. Launch Plainwork from Applications. The first time, macOS asks you to confirm opening an app downloaded from the internet. Click Open.
5. Sign in with your Plainwork account. See Signing in.

System requirements

• macOS 12 or later, on Apple Silicon.
• Windows support is coming soon.

Not sure which chip your Mac has? Open the Apple menu → About This Mac. A line reading "Chip: Apple M1" (or M2, M3, M4, M5...) means Apple Silicon. One reading "Processor: Intel" means it won't run Plainwork.

Updates

Plainwork updates itself automatically, so you don't need to re-download it. New versions download quietly in the background. Once one is ready, the app prompts you to restart to apply it.

Restarting stops recording for a moment while the new version takes over.
