There's no Plainwork cloud or server processing what you do. The watching, the learning, and the remembering all run locally, on your device.

Locked with a key
only you hold
What Plainwork remembers is encrypted on your device, and the key to unlock it never leaves your computer. Switching devices? Add a passphrase, and Plainwork backs up your key scrambled with it, so we never see the key and can't open your data. Not us, not anyone.
- Encrypted on disk with AES-256, so the files are unreadable without the key.
- Every piece of data is signed with HMAC-SHA512, so tampering is caught instantly.
- The key lives in your macOS Keychain, the same vault that guards your passwords.
- Zero-knowledge by design. Your backup are scrambled with your passphrase first.
- Recordings live in a folder only Plainwork can access. Nothing else can read it.

Plainwork only ever watches because you let it, and you can take that back at any moment.
Pause anytime
Pause for an hour, for the day, or until you turn it back on. No capture happens while paused, no exceptions.
Hide any app
Exclude any app, your messages, your password manager, or your personal notes. Plainwork never looks at what you block.
Wipe it, hour or all
Clear the last hour, or everything Plainwork has ever captured. Either way, instantly, no trace left.
Block sensitive sites
Add your bank or any site you don't want touched. Plainwork skips it entirely, no capture, no automation.
Shared habits, private screens
No one, not your employer, not an admin, not us, can ever see your screen activity. Organizations will only ever see the habits you choose to share. Never what you actually did to find them.
Execution stays on your device too
Approved habits run locally, clicking through apps, filling forms, moving files, like you would. Only failed steps and "smart steps" needing an LLM ever leave your device, and only that single step, isolated and deleted the moment it runs.
